Adobe awards Shop with a Cop Silicon Valley $20,000.00 grant for reading literacy programs in San Jose, CA

About Shop with a Cop Silicon Valley:

The Shop with a Cop Foundation of Silicon Valley is an ethnically led local non-profit made up of volunteer police officers, educators, and community leaders.  Shop with a Cop Foundation of Silicon Valley works on behalf of law enforcement officers and the communities they serve locally to shape strong partnerships and breakdown communication barriers; rebuilding trust through active engagement, education programs and outreach to underserved youth so they may achieve their full potential.

Every year, for the past 16 years, Shop with a Cop Foundation of Silicon Valley has hosted over 300 underserved children for a Holiday shopping spree with local Bay Area police officers, firefighters, military personnel and corporate sponsors.  For many children, this special opportunity becomes the only holiday experience they will have.  Some participants are selected from the Readers are Leaders reading campaign at local Title I elementary schools where they “earn” their way to the shopping spree by making significant reading growth within a 10-week time period.  Other children participating are living through a traumatic crisis from the loss of a parent due to domestic violence or other tragedies.  With uniformed officer, firefighter or military personnel by their side, the children are able to shop for holiday gifts for their family members and themselves.  Shop with a Cop gifts each child with a $150.00 Target gift card.  The whole premise is to humanize the people behind the badge so marginalized children see police officers through a positive lens.  This unique program brings the holiday spirit to children who need it the most with hopes to build safer communities for our future.

Reading is the foundation for all learning:

“We are so grateful that the Adobe Employee Community Fund has invested in our organization.  These funds will support our Community Reading Buddies program to ensure that 2nd & 3rd grade students will become successful in their reading abilities so they can thrive and succeed in school.”  -Darrell Cortez-Executive Director-

Each year, employees at participating sites vote on the most pressing social and environmental issues in their communities.  Each local ECF grant making budget is dedicated to supporting these causes.  Grant selections are made for each site by a designated local review panel of Adobe employees in conjunction with the Adobe Corporate Social Responsibility team.  Together, local review panels help direct millions of dollars in community investment.  In 2021, employees at 23 Adobe locations awarded 200 local grants totaling US $5 million.  Non-profits must be invited by a current Adobe employee to apply.
